Position OverviewThis section outlines the primary responsibilities and purpose of the role.
Under the guidance of the department supervisor and a physician, the Ultrasound Technician is responsible for performing sonographic examinations on patients using ultrasound diagnostic tools. While the technician does not make diagnostic decisions, they play a crucial role in collecting necessary sonographic data to assist in medical evaluations. It is essential to ensure that all equipment is operational and ready for use, while also maintaining accurate records of procedures and billing.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are typical for this position and may vary based on departmental needs.
All employees are expected to adhere to Joint Commission standards, including respect for cultural diversity, patient rights, and safety protocols.
All tasks must be performed in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and Code of Conduct.
- Document observations during procedures for physician review and obtain necessary diagnostic images.
- Maintain ultrasound equipment and report any issues to the Lead Technician and supervisor.
- Explain the examination process to patients and provide assistance throughout the procedure.
- Operate ultrasound equipment, analyze sound wave patterns, and produce diagnostic images for physician evaluation.
- Contribute to research case documentation and assist in evaluating new equipment for potential use.
- Conduct various sonographic procedures to identify abnormalities such as masses and stones.
- Implement infection control measures and ensure proper handling and cleaning of equipment.
- Perform basic Doppler scans and ensure proper technique and documentation.
- Review patient medical histories and utilize prior exams for comparative analysis.
- Ensure exams are completed within the required timeframe and meet quality standards.
Any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable.
Education: Must meet License/Certification requirements.
License/Certification: Certification from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardio Credentialing International (CCI) is required.

- Expertise in ultrasound procedures and equipment operation.
