Job Title: Ophthalmic Technician

Murfreesboro Medical Clinic is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Ophthalmic Technician to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Ophthalmic Technician will assist in the care, treatment, and education of patients with ocular conditions and diseases. This role will work closely with ophthalmologists to provide patient care by performing various eye-related clinical functions, including taking medical histories, performing diagnostic tests, and preparing patients for examinations.

  • Be Prepared and On-Time: Arrive at workstations on time and be prepared to start the day, ready to tackle tasks and responsibilities.
  • Effective Communication: Utilize email and team communication to efficiently share information and updates with colleagues.
  • Flexibility: Be adaptable and flexible with scheduled times, including early morning starts.
  • Meet Expectations: Exceed patient, doctor, and staff expectations through a cooperative and teamwork approach.
  • Maintain a Clean and Organized Work Environment: Keep work areas and the clinic clean and well-organized.
  • Compliance with Regulations: Be knowledgeable of and adhere to all HIPAA and OSHA guidelines, as well as MMC policies and procedures.
  • Perform Other Duties as Required: With instruction, perform other duties as required or assigned.
Required Skills:
  • Medical History Taking: Obtain medical histories from patients.
  • Diagnostic Testing: Administer diagnostic tests as directed by doctors.
  • Visual Acuity Measurement: Measure and record visual acuity.
  • Eye Medication Administration: Administer eye medications.
  • Instrument Maintenance: Maintain optical and surgical instruments.
  • Assistance with Minor Surgical Procedures: Assist ophthalmologists in office minor surgical procedures.
  • Exam Room Preparation: Set up, stock, and equip exam and procedure rooms.
  • Room Sterilization and Cleaning: Sterilize and clean rooms and equipment after each use.
  • Test Result Notification: Notify patients of test results as instructed by physicians.
  • Cross-Training: Be able to be cross-trained to cover scheduling surgeries and helping answer incoming calls.
  • Patient Assistance: Assist patients in helping them from the waiting room to exam rooms.
  • Task Follow-Up: Follow up on tasks/MMC portal messages daily.
  • Physician Orders and Communication: Ability to follow physicians' orders, communicate with patients in a supportive manner, and maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Patient Needs Assessment: Ability to assess the needs of patients and the department and respond accordingly.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work in a team approach toward providing quality patient care.
  • Task Management: Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time, be flexible, and follow detailed instructions.
  • Equipment Operation: Ability to learn how to operate ophthalmic equipment, including the Sonomed A-scan, IOL Master, Auto-refractor, Automated Lensometer, Zeiss OCT, Oculus Pentecam, Humphrey's Visual Field, Amsler grid, Ishihara's test for color blindness, and glare test.
Education and Experience Requirements:

- High School diploma or GED

- Experience preferred but not required
