Job Summary

The Animal Caretaker-Per Diem position at Andrus Childrens Center is a unique opportunity to join our Facilities team and contribute to the daily care and enrichment of our animals. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for maintaining the grounds of our Therapeutic Farm, ensuring the health and well-being of our animals, and participating in veterinary visits and record-keeping.

Key Responsibilities

  • Observe and document animal health and behavior, maintaining accurate records of health, medications, behavior, enrichment, training, welfare, and visitor engagement.
  • Conduct visual assessments of animals, work areas, and grounds to ensure proper standards are maintained, reporting on safety hazards and medical concerns.
  • Maintain animal barns by cleaning daily, performing deep cleanings, organizing food storage and inventory, and completing additional duties as required.
  • Participate in landscaping improvements, including mowing, grading, planting, pruning, weed control, and adding special designs for animal enrichment.
  • Respond to emergencies during inclement weather, ensuring the grounds are safe for animals and plowing and salting walkways as needed.
  • Participate in veterinary visits and ensure accurate record-keeping.
  • Present for emergencies related to animals and the farm.
  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance repairs to ensure animal barns, walkways, and fencing are safe and compliant.
  • Participate in animal training and enrichment discussions, completing trainings as necessary and working collaboratively with the team to execute enrichment of the space and animals day-to-day.
  • Support the overall strategic plan of the organization.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in grounds keeping, animal care, and related service settings.
  • Willingness to learn landscaping and relevant equipment.

Physical and Travel Requirements

  • Ability to reach, walk, climb stairs, bend, and lift weights up to 50 lbs.
