Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Library Assistant to join our team at the Dothan Houston County Library. As a Library Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the daily operations of our library, providing excellent customer service, and assisting with various tasks related to library materials, services, and programs.
Key Responsibilities- Perform circulation desk procedures, including checking in and out materials, pulling holds, collecting bookdrops, and managing patron accounts.
- Demonstrate positive customer service skills and assist users with library materials and services in person or over the phone.
- Execute opening and closing procedures, including processing financial transactions such as fines, fees, and services.
- Assist in locating, renewing, and reserving library materials and services, and instruct users in their use.
- Shelve, shelf-read, and straighten library materials, and answer informational and directional questions.
- Facilitate public computer use and provide basic technology support.
- Assist with the operation and use of all library media, technology, and equipment, including non-traditional library materials.
- Register, assist, plan, and present programs and events for all ages.
- Identify items for Technical Services, including adding, mending, or discarding materials.
- Create attractive library displays.
- High school graduate or equivalent, and preferably two years of experience in a related work environment.
- Ability to learn and master existing and new technologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to read and understand English.
- Ability to work nights and weekends, and to lift up to 50 pounds.
