Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Mathematics and Special Education Teacher to join our team at Northern Rivers Family of Services. As a Mathematics and Special Education Teacher, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing classroom instructional plans for students, supporting student success in academic and behavioral goals, and reporting to the Assistant Principal.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) for all students on your caseload, ensuring that accommodations and modifications are provided, and providing specially designed instruction and monitoring student progress toward academic and behavioral goals.
  • Coordinate the creation of special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities, and create and modify materials to match student abilities.
  • Develop and coordinate the implementation of single and classroom behavior plans for managing student behavior to maintain discipline in the classroom, oversee the collecting of behavior data, assist classroom staff with crisis prevention and intervention techniques, and assist classroom staff with de-escalation techniques.
  • Teach students appropriate behavior strategies and provide individualized instruction in the area of Mathematics to High School students in accordance with New York State curriculum standards and graduation requirements.
Requirements and Education
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Special Education (Master's Degree preferred) or subject area, and ability to work with students who demonstrate serious emotional and behavioral challenges, ages 6-21.
  • Requires a NYS certification in Special Education or appropriate subject area.
