About the Army National Guard

As a Horizontal Construction Engineer in the Army National Guard, you will play a vital role in shaping the nation's infrastructure. With a focus on road construction and maintenance, you will operate heavy equipment to clear and prepare construction sites for the construction of roads, airfields, and buildings. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the smooth operation of our nation's transportation systems.

Key Responsibilities

As a Horizontal Construction Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  1. Operating Heavy Equipment: You will operate bulldozers, roadgraders, and other massive equipment to clear and prepare construction sites.
  2. Site Preparation: You will level earth for runways and roadbeds, clearing, excavating, and digging areas of construction sites.
  3. Equipment Maintenance: You will perform routine maintenance and repair of equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  4. Combat Engineer Missions: You will assist in the performance of combat engineer missions, including the identification of soil types and placement of grade stakes.
  5. Transportation and Material Handling: You will transport heavy construction equipment with a tractor-trailer and move heavy building materials with cranes.

Estimated Salary: $40,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on location and experience.

Requirements

To join the Army National Guard, you must:

  • Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
  • Be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or a GED certificate
  • Be between the ages of 17 and 35
  • Pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
  • Meet citizenship requirements
