ROLE OF THE ROBOTICS AUTOMATION SPECIALIST

In this role, you will be responsible for the maintenance and troubleshooting of PLC-controlled machinery, hydraulic systems, vacuum-based end-effectors, and conveyor systems used in the production of wood structures. You will conduct preventive maintenance, including periodic calibration, and gain proficiency in the programming aspects of each machine through specified HMI prompts. Additionally, you will train machine operators on their functionalities and engage in communication with supplier OEMs to address downtimes and procure spare parts. A solid understanding of woodworking CNC equipment, PLC programming, HMI systems, robotics, and networking is essential, along with the ability to debug complex machinery applications.


Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in training sessions to understand the operation and maintenance of acquired equipment.
  • Set up and operate large automated systems for wood part production.
  • Possess knowledge of air-controlled systems, including vacuum pumps.
  • Understand hydraulic press operations.
  • Program and troubleshoot Allen Bradley PLCs.
  • Troubleshoot gantry-based pick and place systems.
  • Interpret electrical blueprints and schematics.
  • Utilize HMI screens for various equipment and instruct operators on their usage.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to guide their technicians in resolving breakdowns and downtimes.
  • Perform minor equipment repairs.
  • Document preventive maintenance activities using advanced CMM programs for traceability.
  • Manage spare parts inventory for equipment.
  • Work with suppliers to fulfill annual maintenance requirements.
  • Establish a maintenance area, workbenches, and acquire necessary tools for repairs.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in mechatronics, robotics, or CNC technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years in manufacturing or relevant electrical roles.
  • Familiarity with common control hardware components used in high-volume manufacturing.
  • Understanding of safety standards (ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA).
  • Knowledge of lock-out-tag-out procedures.
  • Familiarity with electrical standards (NFPA79, National Electric Code, UL508A).
  • Experience troubleshooting Allen Bradley PLCs.
  • Experience with industrial 6-axis Fanuc robots.
  • Knowledge of common fieldbus networks such as Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, or Profinet.
  • Understanding of communication between machine PLCs and database systems for data tracking.
