Job Title: Part-Time Shelter Attendant

Join the City of Deer Park, TX team as a Part-Time Shelter Attendant and contribute to the care and well-being of animals in our community.

Job Summary:

This part-time position is responsible for providing routine animal care and related duties at the City's Humane Shelter. The successful candidate will work under the general supervision of the Humane Shelter Supervisor and perform a variety of tasks, including taking complaints and dispatching animal control officers, cleaning and maintaining kennel areas, and performing related shelter duties.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Take complaints and relay information to animal control officers.
  • Perform shelter duties, including taking reports from the public, receiving animals brought into the shelter, preparing adoption paperwork, and reclaiming animals to their owners.
  • Ensure animals are fed and have water.
  • Update, edit, and correct data files on the animals in the kennel.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels of cleaning and other supplies and inform the supervisor when reordering is necessary.
  • Stock inventory of food, cat litter, cleaning supplies, etc.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of animal care and handling.
  • Basic computer skills, including data entry into the shelter database.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform manual labor.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relations with the public.
