As a key member of our Gas, Water, and Wastewater Operations department, you will be responsible for performing unskilled and semiskilled general labor duties in construction, maintenance, repairs, and services of our utility systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform labor work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of gas, water, and wastewater pipes, valves, fittings, motors, and equipment.
  • Assist in the annual inspections of gas valves, water valves, fire hydrants, and manholes.
  • Assist in routine wastewater main line cleaning and inspections.
  • Load and unload materials and equipment, and keep vehicles stocked with materials.
  • Use and assist in the mixing of certain chemicals.
  • Use and maintain various hand and power tools.
  • Clean, paint, and maintain buildings, equipment, and other facilities as directed.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on company vehicles and equipment.
  • Operate and use hand tools, small equipment, and machinery.
  • Follow proper safety standards, procedures, and policies.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 2-4 years of relevant work-related experience
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite
  • Regularly requires the ability to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, and crouch
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Residency radius required and must live within 25 miles of Decatur Utilities facility
  • Completion of WorkKeys Assessments to include minimum scores in the following skill level descriptions: Applied Mathematics (4), Graphic Literacy (4), and Workplace Documents (4)
