Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vascular Service Line Coordinator to join our team at WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals. As a key member of our Perioperative Services department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our vascular services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the design, planning, and evaluation of clinical education and professional development activities to maintain consistent standards of practice and competencies in patient care.
  • Support unit leadership by demonstrating effective leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing rounds throughout the day to communicate with charge RNs, OR control desk, college staff members, and surgeons to ensure cases proceed as planned.
  • Review the OR schedule at least one week in advance to identify specific case needs, including potential staff training requirements, equipment, implants, and other specialty items.
  • Expedite first-case on-time starts and room turnover to meet all OR efficiency and quality benchmarks.
  • Update surgeon preference cards and college instrumentation trays and participate in the annual capital equipment planning process, including the acquisition of quotes.
  • Partner with SPD, Supply Chain Operations, nursing departments, and physician offices to ensure patient care needs are met.
  • Monitor vendors in patient care areas and participate in inventory management by adjusting PAR levels, monitoring for expired products, revising custom packs, and performing value analysis functions to seek potential cost savings/containment.
  • Facilitate the nursing unit's education plan for nursing orientation, staff development, continuing education, competency validation, patient education, and academic experiences.
  • Define and coordinate orientation and staff development needs for all college employees, individualizing orientation/development, evaluating progress through goal setting, and conducting probationary/annual evaluations, including the creation and monitoring of performance action plans.
  • Assist in the development and assessment of annual staff competencies to ensure departmental staff members' knowledge and skills fulfill service expectations.
  • Consistently provide opportunities for interaction with employees to discuss professional growth, personal concerns, and educational goals.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of college staffing plan and required FTEs to match service block scheduling to create a working staff college schedule.
  • Lead performance management initiatives, including preparation for regulatory surveys.
  • Collaborate with managers to develop unit standards, policies, procedures, protocols, documentation, forms, and performance monitoring tools.
  • Maintain clinical expertise and demonstrate ability to conduct quality/environmental surveillance auditing.
  • Promote an environment supportive of research/evidenced-based practice by serving as a change agent.
  • Contribute to professional and scholarly nursing activities.
  • Participate in meeting the Goals and Objectives of Perioperative Services and ensure the department contributes to the attainment of the hospital's goals.
  • Role model and follow all WVU Medicine's Standards of Behavior.
  • Demonstrate expert team building skills, problem-solving abilities, crucial conversation skills, negotiation, and conflict resolution strategies needed in a high-stress environment.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing with 2 years in the area of practice or Associate's degree in Nursing with 4 years in the area of practice.
  • Current licensure to practice professional nursing in West Virginia.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  • Preferred certification in the area of specialty.
