Breast Nurse Navigator Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Breast Nurse Navigator to join our team at Radiology Imaging Associates. As a Breast Nurse Navigator, you will play a critical role in providing comprehensive care to patients diagnosed with breast cancer and/or high-risk breast conditions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate care for newly diagnosed patients, including those with breast cancer, high-risk, and benign findings.
  • Collaborate with breast radiologists to inform referring physicians about diagnoses and confirm their preferences for additional imaging or procedures.
  • Communicate with patients to inform them of their biopsy results, provide education on their diagnosis, and discuss subsequent diagnostic evaluations.
  • Follow up with patients after diagnosis to discuss the nurse navigation role, confirm/schedule additional appointments, and address concerns.
  • Provide ongoing support to patients during subsequent diagnostic evaluations and recommendations for further biopsies.
  • Assist with communication among the multidisciplinary team during this process.
  • Perform nursing duties as needed, including vital sign checks, blood draws, wound care, and other responsibilities.
  • Respond to emergency care needs within the radiology department.
  • Closely collaborate with the Sarah Cannon nurse navigator team and provide a smooth transition for patients.
  • Document all patient contacts, treatment providers, appointment dates, surgical procedures, and treatment updates using the mammography reporting system.
  • Attend relevant case conferences and administrative meetings.
  • Participate in community outreach programs and activities.
Requirements:
  • Advanced knowledge of breast cancer screening and diagnostic tools.
  • Proven success in a protocol/pathway-driven environment.
  • Able to navigate patients through various multidisciplinary breast care programs.
  • Able to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate the physical, emotional, and educational needs of patients.
  • Strong written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, co-workers, referring physician groups, and radiologists.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Able to work efficiently and effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Strong computer and systems skills.
Education Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; valid registration as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado.
  • CBPN-IC NCBC, AAMSN, and ACLS certifications preferred.

Radiology Imaging Associates offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, term life insurance, AD&D, EAP, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, PTO, and holiday pay for eligible employees. Part-time employees may have access to some of these benefits on a pro-rated basis. Full-time employees will become eligible for benefits on the first of the month following 30 days of employment.
