Position Overview: The School Nurse is responsible for the comprehensive application of the nursing process and the provision of care for students in an educational environment. This role may also involve supervisory responsibilities within contracted services. The School Nurse delivers care in alignment with Amergis Healthcare's values, policies, and physician directives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Employs the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care needs of students.
- Demonstrates the delivery of skilled nursing care in accordance with established orders and Individualized Health Plans (IHP).
- Administers treatments, interventions, and medications based on identified priorities as outlined in the IHP.
- Monitors and documents the effectiveness of care interventions, treatments, and medications.
- Ensures thorough documentation meets client expectations.
- Facilitates coordination of services among the school, local health agencies, and community resources to address student needs.
- Communicates effectively with school district personnel regarding the student’s care plan and IHP.
- Informs the District School Nurse, Amergis Supervisor, parents, and physicians about significant changes in student health status as per the IHP.
Collaboration and Safety:
Works in partnership with educational staff and health agencies to design and fulfill the healthcare needs of students. Maintains a focus on student safety at all times and adheres to the policies of Amergis Healthcare and the school district.
Professional Standards:
Upholds the integrity of professional nursing practice by adhering to the Nurse Practice Act, Standards of Nursing Practice, and relevant laws and regulations, including the Patient Bill of Rights.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program (RN, LPN, or LVN).
- Current licensure as a practical, vocational, or registered nurse in the practicing state.
- Preferred one year of professional nursing experience.
- Commitment to professional standards and practices.
- Willingness to engage in skill development opportunities.
- Completion of Amergis' Competency program.
- Current CPR certification.
- Compliance with health regulations as applicable.
- Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
- Strong communication skills, with proficiency in English preferred.
- Computer literacy is essential.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
