Role Overview
The Mainframe Software Engineer will play a crucial role in the design, development, and upkeep of COBOL applications, ensuring a user-focused and business-driven approach throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough analysis, design, development, implementation, and testing of data-centric applications within a Mainframe environment, integrating external data sources as needed.
- Convert technical specifications and logical/physical designs into functional code for new or enhanced projects, catering to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop well-organized COBOL code that utilizes reusable subroutines or objects, includes comprehensive comments, and is easy to maintain.
- Create COBOL programs, ad hoc queries, and reports as required.
- Engage in design, code, and test inspections throughout the project lifecycle to identify potential issues and ensure adherence to established methodologies.

Documentation and Testing
- Author the system/technical sections of assigned deliverables and support fellow technical team members, such as systems testers, in their deliverables, including test plans. In smaller teams, the developer may take on the responsibility of writing these items.
- Execute unit testing and formulate appropriate unit test plans to confirm that all requirements are satisfied.
- Provide support in integration, production assistance, systems acceptance, and other related testing as necessary.

Qualifications
- Extensive experience in COBOL development.
- Proficient in programming languages, including COBOL, JCL, TSO, and ISPF.
- Familiarity with mainframe systems such as IBM z/OS.
- Experience in dataset management.
- Knowledge of scripting languages.
- Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
