Job Summary

This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of plumbing, piping, steam systems, and equipment at UofL Health. These systems are critical to the hospital's operations and include medical gases, vacuum systems, sewage systems, domestic water supply, and heating and chilled water systems.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of a lead mechanic, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing fixtures and equipment, including urinals, toilets, sinks, drinking fountains, and faucets.
  • Clearing pipe stoppages using drain cleaning equipment and replacing copper, cast, and PVC piping.
  • Inspecting and maintaining all existing plumbing and hydronic systems.
  • Completing inspections of all plumbing systems and equipment according to established procedures, federal and state regulations, and codes.
  • Reading and understanding blueprints and sketches.
  • Brazing, soldering, and using plumbing tools.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience as a commercial/industrial plumber.
  • A valid driver's license and a plumber's journeyman license (preferred).
  • Certifications in KSHE Safe Day One, Med Gas, and Backflow Prevention (preferred).

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe and efficient plumbing system, ensuring compliance with regulations and codes, and providing excellent customer service to UofL Health staff and patients.
