Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled Biomedical Equipment Specialist to join our team. As a Biomedical Equipment Specialist, you will be responsible for maintaining, calibrating, inspecting, and repairing clinical and patient care equipment. Your expertise will ensure that our medical equipment is in compliance with regulatory requirements and quality control standards.
Key Responsibilities- Perform preventative maintenance, installation, testing, calibration, and repair of biomedical equipment, ensuring safe operations.
- Conduct regular inspections of medical equipment, prioritizing high-risk items.
- Recognize and report unsafe conditions to management.
- Collaborate with team members to create and enter PM procedures following manufacturer guidelines.
- Effectively respond to service requests, troubleshoot, and repair medical equipment, demonstrating good judgment.
- Document all service requests and repairs in the biomedical equipment database.
- Inspect new devices and equipment, ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and safety protocols.
- Secure device information for the biomedical equipment database.
- Maintain and fulfill departmental regulatory requirements and goals.
- Comply with system, hospital, and departmental policies and procedures.
- Report witnessed violations that put patients, staff, department, or facility at risk.
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of shop safety, including the use of electronic test equipment.
- Assist with responding to medical equipment recalls and device alerts from manufacturers.
- Participate in On-Call duties, responding to calls within 15 minutes and reporting to the facility within one hour if required.
- Provide technical instruction to users over the phone, minimizing equipment downtime.
- Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical, Electrical, or Clinical Engineering.
- 0-2 years of relevant experience.
- Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certificate preferred.
- In-depth IT knowledge on configuration capsules on medical device integrations strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of TJC, DNV, HFAP, CAP, NFPA, CMS, HIPAA, and other applicable standards and regulations.
- Ability to troubleshoot, read schematics, and/or blueprints.
- Understanding of computer and network security.
- High degree of self-motivation, commitment, and integrity.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills (MS Office, Clinical applications, CMMS systems).
- Ability to access equipment in confined areas and move/lift common items of medical equipment.
- Unimpaired ability to read color-coded diagrams and instructions and see/hear equipment warning alarms.
- Ability to wear protective equipment such as surgical and N95 masks.
- Travel to local system hospitals within Hudson County.
