The University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a highly skilled Cardiac Surgery First Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our cardiac surgery department, you will provide professional duties and surgical assistance to licensed surgeons and physicians.
Key Responsibilities- Perform tissue handling, including making incisions, retracting, dissecting, tying, ligating, stapling, suturing, and providing hemostasis.
- Perform chest tube insertions and close leg and chest incisions.
- Assist in the preoperative planning and documentation in keeping with protocols.
- Provide patient care and education, including pre and post-operative instructions.
- Collaborate with attending physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
- Participate in in-service training for medical and paramedical personnel.
- Graduation from a Physician Assistant Training Program approved by the Board of Physician Quality Assurance.
- Certification or eligibility for certification by National Commission for Certifying Physician's Assistants.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification.
- Registration by Maryland State Board for Medical Examiners as a Physician's Assistant.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Physician Assistant or Registered Nurse First Assist.
- Experience in cardiac surgery or a related field.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
