Job Overview

Position Summary: The Facilities Maintenance Technician is accountable for a diverse range of custodial and maintenance responsibilities aimed at ensuring a clean, welcoming, and secure environment within properties managed by Steuben Churchpeople Against Arbor Housing & Development.

Essential Duties:

  • Perform indoor cleaning tasks such as dusting, vacuuming, and maintaining cleanliness in communal areas.
  • Execute outdoor maintenance including snow removal, lawn care, and landscaping tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Conduct regular inspections of public spaces, ensuring they are tidy and free of hazards.
  • Carry out routine repairs including painting, drywall patching, and replacing fixtures as needed.
  • Maintain heating and plumbing systems, addressing issues like filter changes and leak prevention.
  • Identify and report significant maintenance needs to the Property Maintenance Supervisor for further action.
  • Ensure the functionality of safety systems including smoke detectors and alarm systems.
  • Prepare vacant units for new tenants in a timely manner to support leasing efforts.
  • Assess potential safety risks related to property and personnel, reporting concerns promptly.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies and lockouts as part of an on-call rotation.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required, with 2-5 years of experience in property maintenance or custodial roles.
  • Certification in lead-safe work practices is preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Familiarity with maintenance procedures and equipment operation.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and work order software.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet insurance requirements.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move objects weighing between 50 to 100 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching.
  • Frequent outdoor work in varying temperatures and conditions.
  • Maintain safety protocols while using cleaning chemicals and equipment.
