Cancer Data Analyst

Cedars-Sinai is seeking a skilled Cancer Registrar to join our team. As a Cancer Registrar, you will play a critical role in monitoring patient documentation and diagnostic information to analyze and abstract tumor data. You will assign and report codes for diagnosing and treating cancers for reporting and regulatory compliance. Your duties will include querying multiple electronic record and tracking systems, performing follow-up, participating in quality reviews, and compiling and trending data and generating reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Abstract cancer-related data according to established policies and procedures, including summarizing patient records, demographic data, diagnostic procedures, date of diagnoses, histological diagnosis, and treatment.
- Assign codes for treatments, procedures, and diagnoses according to appropriate classification systems, such as ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM, ICD-0, American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACoS CoC) guidelines, Facility Oncology Registry Data Standards (FORDS), American Joint Commission on Cancer (AJCC), Tumor, Nodes, Metastasis (TNM) & Collaborative Staging/Coding, and Surveillance of Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) guidelines.
- Perform data entry using specialized software.
- Follow-up annually on each known living patient accessioned into the registry from completion of treatment to death to determine their cancer status, quality, and length of survival, subsequent treatment, and complete death information.
- Compile data and generate reports for special studies and annual reporting; facilitate or answer telephone inquiries related to the status of registry patient and medical information; enter data in compliance with the State of CA mandatory reporting guidelines.
- Follow privacy and confidentiality rules in accordance with Cedars Sinai Health System, State, Federal, and HIPAA regulations.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, computer science, or healthcare-related field preferred.
- Active Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) credential required.
- 2 years of experience working in a Health Information Department required. Experience in abstracting in a Cancer Registry highly preferred.
