Project Engineer 2 Role Summary

The Project Engineer 2 will play a crucial role in the successful execution of construction projects by utilizing construction fundamentals and company best practice standards, processes, resources, and tools. This position will be responsible for participating in various aspects of the construction process, including general construction management, punch lists, and executing self-perform work, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the building process and how JE Dunn Construction executes projects.

Key Role ResponsibilitiesCore Responsibilities
  • Safety and Quality: Learns and actively participates in all aspects of the company's safety and quality plans and culture by demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment through individual actions and mentoring others.
  • Quality Assurance/Quality Control: Participates with project QA/QC planning to ensure quality for assigned tasks.
  • Estimating and Change Management: Learns and participates in the estimating and change management process and tools, including quantity take-off and review of subcontractor proposals.
  • Site Management: Works on site with the project team to support a variety of tasks such as monitoring crew size, self-perform hours, materials, quantity, and equipment.
  • Punch Lists and Inspections: Participates in activities such as punch lists, city inspections, safety reviews, quality reviews, and preparation of the necessary documentation.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Posts drawings and specifications with most recent information, organizes and participates in various project meetings, prepares and disseminates required documentation as appropriate, and participates and prepares a variety of reports.
  • Job Site Observations: Performs periodic job site observations with project leadership.
  • Procurement and Logistics: Creates procurement logs based on the project schedule and specification requirements, tracks shop drawings, and follows up with deliveries as directed by the project team.
  • Progress Updates and Reporting: Provides progress updates and reports back to the project team to support the scheduling process.
  • Project Close-Out: Supports the close out of projects, including but not limited to the punch list, operations and maintenance manuals, as-built drawings, etc.
  • Lean Practices: Utilizes company best practice standards and fundamentals for building and construction techniques, builds relationships and develops communication and interpersonal skills with tradespeople and project team members, and develops an understanding about the various functions and support roles across the company and how each contributes to the success of a project.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Collaborates and demonstrates teamwork in project settings, learns and incorporates Lean practices into regular activities, and learns about best practices for identifying, developing, and integrating self-perform opportunities into the project.
Additional Core Responsibilities
  • Implementing Project Safety Plans: Participates in implementing project safety plans and ensures a culture of compliance through use of training, toolbox talks, and communication with Safety Representatives.
  • Preparation of Estimates and Schedules: Supports the preparation of estimates, schedules, work plans, daily logs, etc.
  • Crew Activity Planning: Pre-plans crew activities, fulfills the requirements of the daily task plan, completes look ahead schedule, and provides updates to project superintendent.
  • Job Set-Up and Project Administration: Supports and/or completes job set-up and project administration in CMiC and other company technologies.
  • Subcontractor Management: Participates with project team in managing subcontractor(s) scope of work.
  • Internal Project Support: Coordinates with internal project support functions as directed by project team.
  • Cost Control: Controls costs by evaluating and improving processes of assigned tasks.
  • Quality Assurance/Quality Control: Participates with project QA/QC planning to ensure quality for assigned tasks.
  • Crew Schedule Development: Assists with the development and maintenance of project crew schedule.
  • MOC Materials and Other Costs: Provides analysis for MOC Materials and Other Costs and equipment on project site.
  • Training and Mentoring: Supports and participates in training and mentoring less experienced project team members.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office.

  • Lean Knowledge: Knowledge of Lean process and philosophy.
  • Construction Technology: Knowledge of required construction technology.
  • Construction Management Fundamentals: Ability to apply fundamentals of the means and methods of construction management.
  • Self-Perform and Labor Productivity: Knowledge of self-perform and labor productivity.
  • Project Productivity Assessment: Ability to assess and optimize project productivity.
  • Trade Knowledge: Knowledge of specific trades and scopes of work.
  • Relationship Building: Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field.
  • Equivalent Experience: In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
Working Environment
  • Lifting Requirements: Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Travel and Relocation: May require periods of travel and/or relocation.
  • Non-Traditional Hours: Must be willing to work non-traditional hours to meet project needs.
  • Extreme Conditions: May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold).
  • Frequent Activities: Frequent activity: Standing, Walking, Climbing, Bending, Reaching above Shoulder, Pushing, Pulling.
