This role encompasses a range of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the success of spacecraft operations and mission support. The duties outlined below reflect the highest level of expertise required for this position.
Key Responsibilities- Contract Oversight: Manage and supervise contract/task order activities, including financial oversight for spacecraft operations support. Guide contractors in interpreting and executing the Statement of Work (SOW), making necessary adjustments as required.
- Risk Management: Conduct engineering risk assessments for assigned missions, identifying potential risks and approving mitigation strategies while leading their implementation.
- IT Security Management: Oversee IT security and configuration control for both flight and ground software/hardware. This includes managing security scanning, testing, and the implementation of necessary security updates.
- Data Processing Assurance: Ensure that initial science data processing and distribution to the scientific community meet established minimum requirements for data collection and dissemination.
- Anomaly Investigation: Lead investigations into spacecraft and ground system anomalies, utilizing Root Cause and Corrective Action analysis to report findings.
- Engineering Project Development: Initiate and recommend engineering projects aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, reducing costs, or streamlining processes.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior Mission Directors, participating in major spacecraft/mission engineering reviews to evaluate operational readiness.
- Diversity and Inclusion Advocacy: Promote a culture of engagement, diversity, and innovation, supporting the organization’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility.
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet specific educational and experiential requirements, including:
- A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, or Computer Science from an accredited institution.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, demonstrating the ability to support spaceflight and mission operations through the development of operational concepts and engineering documentation.
- For higher-grade qualifications, experience leading engineering teams and managing complex projects is essential.
