Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Pipefitter Leadman to join our team at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. As a key member of our pipefitting crew, you will be responsible for performing skilled manual work in the installation, modification, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of piping systems and associated appurtenances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct the work of assigned Pipefitters, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Plan, schedule, and inspect the work of subordinates, adhering to approved instructions, standards, plans, and specifications.
  • Estimate material and labor requirements for projects, check material and equipment received, and requisition necessary supplies and tools.
  • Bend, cut, fit, thread, solder, braze, cement, and assemble piping systems of all materials and types, as well as weld and cut metals using gas or electric arc processes.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain piping, coils, steam traps, and controls associated with HVAC systems.
  • Install, maintain, clean, and repair pipeline strainers, pressure regulating, reducing, and relief valves, temperature regulating valves, temperature, and pressure gauges, and other appurtenances on piping systems associated with water reclamation plant process equipment.
  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain pneumatic process control systems.

Requirements

  • One year of experience as a pipefitter.
  • Considerable knowledge of piping systems, pneumatic process control, and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to use an oxyacetylene torch, electric arc welding, soldering, and brazing.
  • Ability to interpret and work from sketches and blueprints.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment of the trade.
  • One year of service with the District as a Pipefitter and civil service status as a Pipefitter.
