The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) operates within a dynamic acute care environment, collaborating closely with a diverse healthcare team to deliver exceptional patient care in the General Surgery department.
Key Responsibilities:
Assessment & Management:
- Conducts thorough history and physical examinations, ensuring accurate documentation in patient records.
- Utilizes appropriate assessment techniques to gather relevant diagnostic information.
- Evaluates risks associated with the management of acute and complex chronic patients, including medication side effects and nutritional concerns.
- Assists in the operating room as needed and performs bedside procedures.
Diagnosis:
- Collaborates with the healthcare team to establish diagnoses for complex health conditions.
- Oversees diagnostic testing, including ordering and interpreting results.
- Develops prioritized differential diagnoses.
- Identifies complications and initiates appropriate interventions.
Care Planning:
- Determines expected outcomes based on diagnoses and formulates comprehensive care plans for complex health needs.
- Employs evidence-based guidelines to create individualized care strategies.
- Implements and adjusts care plans as necessary.
- Prescribes diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
- May perform advanced procedures as per established competencies.
Communication & Collaboration:
- Maintains effective communication with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Engages with patients and families to ensure continuity of care across settings.
Documentation:
- Accurately documents patient progress through daily notes and summaries.
- Ensures documentation meets compliance standards and reflects patient acuity.
Professional Development:
- Exhibits professional behaviors, including mentoring and educating graduate students.
- Seeks opportunities for research involvement and evidence-based practice analysis.
- Maintains continuing education credits and professional organization memberships.
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in a relevant field.
- National Board Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- Preferred certification as a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA).
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
