Norton Sound Health Corporation (NSHC) has been providing high-quality healthcare services to the Nome community and surrounding villages since 1978. Our state-of-the-art hospital, established in 2013, is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including four exam lanes and ancillary testing equipment. We are seeking a skilled and compassionate optometrist to join our team and contribute to the delivery of exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive eye care services to patients of all ages, including routine exams, diagnoses, and treatment of eye-related disorders and conditions.
  • Document patient exams thoroughly in our electronic health record system, including anterior and posterior evaluations, dilations, and prescriptions as necessary.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare practitioners to manage co-managed eye diseases and systemic conditions.
  • Refer patients to trusted specialists as needed and follow up on results and reports.
  • Develop and implement patient education programs to promote proper eye care and hygiene.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive working relationship with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
Requirements:
  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current licensure to practice optometry in the state of Alaska.
  • Strong diagnostic skills and ability to work independently in a rural setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to variable situations and work well under pressure.
