Organist

Job Title: Organist

We are seeking a skilled and spiritually mature Organist to join our worship team at Salem Lutheran Church. The ideal candidate will have experience playing both the organ and piano, and a strong understanding of Christian music and worship.

Responsibilities:

• Provide musical leadership for worship services, weddings, and funerals
• Select and purchase music for preludes, offertories, and postludes
• Supervise the use and care of the organ and pianos
• Work with the Choir Director and Pastor to plan and coordinate music for worship services
• Cultivate and schedule other organists to partner in this ministry
• Uphold the Confession and Values of the North American Lutheran Church

Requirements:

• Strong musical skills, including organ and piano playing
• Knowledge of Christian music and worship
• Ability to work collaboratively with the worship team and Pastor
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information

Education and Training:

Candidate should have a strong understanding of the Christian Church Year and Lutheran liturgy, as well as knowledge of various types of Christian music.

We are looking for a candidate who is a growing disciple of Jesus Christ, and who sees themselves as a part of the priesthood of all believers. The ideal candidate will be committed to lifelong learning, and will have a solid understanding of biblical worship and its meaning.

Supervision and Evaluation:

• The Pastor serves as the immediate supervisor of the Organist
• The position will be evaluated regularly by the Worship and Music Committee

Vacation and Benefits:

• 3 months – 3 years = 1-week paid vacation
• 3-5 years = 2 weeks paid vacation
• 5+ years = 3 weeks paid vacation

Salary:

Commensurate with responsibilities, qualifications, and experience.
