Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Licensed Electrician to join our team at the City of Minneapolis-Human Resources. As an Electrical Systems Specialist, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and operating electrical systems and equipment in accordance with Federal, State, and City Codes and Ordinances.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and test electrical systems and equipment, including generators, motors, UPS's, control systems, PLC's, power and lighting systems, etc.
  • Plan, prepare layouts, and perform electrical work to meet facility standards
  • Maintain the fiber optic network and structured wiring for all IT, security, and access systems
  • Perform programming and maintenance of motor protection relays, variable frequency drives, power monitors, and similar devices
  • Install interior and exterior wiring
Working Conditions

Exposure to high voltage. Exposure to all weather elements and environments. Work includes confined spaces and heights above and below ground.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One year of experience as a Licensed Electrician, including industrial wiring
  • Minnesota Class 'A' Journeyman Electrician License
  • Valid Drivers License
Preferred Qualifications
  • Successful completion of a two-year electrical program from an accredited trade school or the Minneapolis Electrical JATC program
Selection Process

The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience. It is essential that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score of 70.00 on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list.

The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be further considered for the position. All job applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test once a conditional offer of employment has been made.

This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement between the City of Minneapolis and the Electricians Local #292 (CEL).
