Geospatial Data Analyst

In the role of GIS Analyst Intern at WSP USA, you will collaborate with our Earth and Environment Team to work on FEMA projects across the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Northeast U.S. regions.
This temporary position seeks individuals enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program with a focus on Geographic Information Systems, Geography, or related fields.
About the RoleAs a summer intern, you will gain hands-on experience performing flood risk analysis, mapping, and related services. You will have the opportunity to learn basic principles of GIS database development, qualitative/quantitative analysis, and mapping.
- Compile, manipulate, and refine geographic data from various sources, including hydraulic models, field collection, satellite/aerial imagery, public domain data, and existing maps.
- Produce high-quality cartographic products and accompanying reports according to technical guidelines and client needs.
- Perform quality control checks of spatial and non-spatial datasets to ensure data integrity.
- Collaborate with team members on project tasks related to GIS, database design, and management, as well as data visualization.
You will also customize GIS workflow and software programs for data collection, engineering, and environmental applications, and assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.

RequirementsTo be successful in this role, you must meet the following qualifications:
- Be actively enrolled in an accredited Geographic Information Systems, Geography, or related Undergraduate or Graduate program.
- Have demonstrated interest in Geographic Information Systems or a related field, and a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects.
- Have experience using ESRI ArcGIS software.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrate competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Preferred qualifications include experience with FEMA's Risk Map and National Flood Insurance program, producing high-quality digital and hardcopy maps, data visualization, and customization of GIS software using Python, prior internship and leadership involvement on campus, and authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
Estimated Salary: $25,000 per year (approximately) based on national averages for GIS Analyst Intern positions in the United States.
