JOB BULLETIN

The City of Buena Park is in search of a dedicated and enthusiastic Junior Civil Engineer to enhance our Public Works Team. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional communication abilities, adeptly addressing community inquiries while aiding in the planning and execution of the City's transportation and traffic engineering initiatives. Responsibilities may encompass a range of engineering designs, including traffic signal enhancements, roadway rehabilitation, signage and striping, worksite traffic management, traffic operations assessments, and parking analysis.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision, this role involves executing professional and technical engineering tasks related to public works, private developments, and traffic signal projects. Responsibilities include preparing engineering plans, specifications, and calculations; estimating material costs; conducting inspections and surveys; and assisting in the development of engineering reports.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are illustrative of the types of work that may be performed:
  1. Drafts plans, specifications, and cost estimates for various engineering projects, including sewer, street, and traffic control installations.
  2. Utilizes computer-aided design software to prepare and update design drawings and maps.
  3. Assists in the preparation and verification of material and labor cost estimates for development and improvement projects.
  4. Provides technical guidance to engineering technicians regarding construction specifications and engineering calculations.
  5. Conducts field inspections to verify measurements and assess site conditions.
  6. Reviews and processes land development and traffic control plans, calculating associated fees.
  7. Evaluates engineering plans and construction documents for compliance with standards and regulations.
  8. Conducts studies related to traffic engineering and public works projects.
  9. Prepares informational materials for the public regarding engineering projects.
  10. Analyzes traffic data and prepares related specifications.
  11. Responds to inquiries from various stakeholders, providing engineering information as needed.
  12. Administers public works contracts, preparing necessary reports.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES

Knowledge of:

Principles of civil and structural engineering design; public works construction practices; surveying methods; traffic engineering principles; and effective communication techniques.

Ability to:

Prepare engineering plans and reports; conduct engineering calculations; organize tasks effectively; communicate clearly; and utilize computer-aided design programs.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is required, along with one year of professional civil engineering experience and proficiency in AutoCAD software. Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T.) certification may substitute for required experience.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

A valid Class C California driver license and acceptable driving record are required.
