About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Human Resources Manager to join our team at the City of Long Beach. As a key member of our HR department, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance employee satisfaction, retention, and overall workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement employee engagement initiatives to improve retention and overall employee satisfaction.
  • Conduct regular surveys, focus groups, and feedback sessions to assess employee engagement levels.
  • Analyze engagement data and create action plans to address areas of improvement.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture aligned with the City's values and goals.
  • Develop and lead initiatives that promote employee well-being, recognition, and a sense of community.
  • Coordinate and manage employee events, activities, and recognition programs.
  • Serve as an advocate for employees, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are addressed.
  • Develop effective internal communication strategies to keep employees informed and engaged.
  • Design and implement engagement-related training programs.
  • Provide coaching and support to managers on how to effectively engage and motivate their teams.
  • Develop onboarding programs that enhance new hire integration and engagement.
  • Establish metrics to measure the effectiveness of engagement initiatives and programs.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on employee engagement trends and progress to senior leadership.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in employee engagement, learning and development, or related HR functions in a public or private sector environment.
  • At least three years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role, overseeing employee engagement, DEI, learning and development programs, or HR Functions.
What We Offer

The City of Long Beach offers a competitive salary range of $140,000 - $185,000, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
