Overview:


As a Refrigeration Systems Specialist, you will address customer requirements for equipment service through the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of refrigeration, heating, and air-conditioning systems typically found in supermarkets, convenience stores, and cold storage facilities, under the guidance of a Master or Lead Service Technician.


Key Responsibilities:


- Execute scheduled maintenance tasks on supermarket refrigeration systems and self-contained temperature-controlled display units with oversight from a Master or Lead Service Technician.


- Conduct preventative maintenance, including compressor replacements, leak detection, and coil cleaning, with guidance from a Master or Lead Service Technician.


- Continuously enhance your knowledge through practical training, including new product introductions, service bulletins, and computer-based learning.


- Complete necessary documentation (work orders and timesheets) and electronic communications accurately and promptly.


- Utilize a handheld computer to manage customer paperwork and invoicing requirements efficiently.


- Maintain and organize truck inventory in a systematic and tidy manner, adhering to vehicle maintenance protocols (if applicable).


- Identify and employ standard tools of the trade, including refrigerant recovery equipment.


- Cultivate and sustain excellent customer relationships while clearly communicating equipment and system issues using appropriate terminology.


- Perform maintenance on conventional refrigeration systems, parallel rack systems, walk-in coolers, and other common refrigeration units for supermarkets and convenience stores under the direction of a Master or Lead Service Technician.


- Demonstrate a foundational understanding of refrigerant and oil characteristics, sub-cooling, superheat, psychometrics, copper brazing, single-phase compressor components, and refrigerated fixture airflow.


- Interpret temperature and pressure charts accurately.


- Conduct basic electrical troubleshooting and refrigeration cycle diagnostics.


- Safely manage R290 refrigerant and other hazardous materials such as dry nitrogen.


- Responsible for de-icing case and walk-in evaporator coils, replacing fan motors, and cleaning condenser coils.


- Understand system evacuation and charging, system pump down, and system defrost processes.


- Additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Education Requirements:

Required Level:
High School Diploma/GED

Preferred Level:
HVAC-R Technical School Degree

Experience:
Minimum of 2 years in the field or 0 years with Certification from a Technical School

Additional Information:
- Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a safe driving record in accordance with fleet policies.


- Must be physically capable of walking distances, bending, crouching, climbing ladders, working at heights, and lifting/carrying objects up to fifty pounds repeatedly and for extended periods.


- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and a high level of motivation are essential.


- Strong mechanical aptitude, including knowledge of basic maintenance tasks and the use of hand tools.


- Familiarity with HVAC heating and cooling principles and basic electrical schematics is required.


- Availability to work nights and/or weekends as necessary.


- Working knowledge of basic refrigeration and/or commercial refrigeration and HVAC is preferred.


- Strong leadership qualities and business acumen.


- EPA 608 universal certification is required.


- Superior decision-making capabilities and paperwork management skills.
