Finance Internship Opportunity

The City of New Braunfels is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Accounting Intern. This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in financial analysis, budgeting, and accounting principles.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the Budget Division in building an updated chart of accounts to facilitate data translation between the current and new ERP systems.
- Analyze and review franchise fee structures to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Prepare detailed analyses and participate in quarterly monitoring meetings with the Budget Division to assess budget performance.
- Conduct research on best practices for managing capital funds and processes in other municipalities.
- Collaborate with Budget Analysts to enhance the city's grants process by developing timelines and procedures that meet all grant requirements.
- Assist the Grants Coordinator in reconciling FY24 expenditures and revenues, ensuring all files contain necessary documentation.
- Support the Purchasing Division with P-card and/or Travel Card administration.
- Assist the Purchasing Division in contract reconciliation by reviewing estimated completion times, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring all contract requirements are fulfilled.
- Organize and prepare folders and spreadsheets for all departments to facilitate the budget preparation process.
- Work with the Accounting/Finance team to compile and analyze data, track information, and provide employee support as needed.
- Currently enrolled in an Accounting, Public Administration, Business, or related field degree plan or a recent graduate of listed degree plan.
- Satisfactory completion of an introductory accounting course and a basic understanding of accounting and financial principles.
- Excellent computer skills, including Word and Excel in a Microsoft Windows environment.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Maintaining the confidentiality of City information, according to the standards of the Privacy Act of 1974.
This position is performed in a standard office environment and may require working immediately before, during, or immediately after an emergency or disaster.
