Overview:

Role Responsibilities:
A successful candidate will independently address engineering challenges and represent the organization in discussions to resolve critical issues and to plan and coordinate work efforts.

This role necessitates the application of advanced methodologies and the adaptation of theories, principles, and practices from multiple engineering disciplines.

Key Functions:
The position involves conventional planning, investigations, surveys, structures, or equipment with relatively few complex features, following established precedents. Assignments may include:

  • Design and development of equipment
  • Vendor assessments
  • System testing
  • Specification preparation
  • Process evaluations
  • Research initiatives
  • Report generation

Work demands a comprehensive understanding of precedents in the specialty area and a solid grasp of principles and practices in related fields.

In a leadership capacity, the individual will plan, develop, coordinate, and oversee significant engineering projects or several smaller projects with numerous complex features.

As an independent researcher, the individual will undertake intricate or innovative assignments that require the creation of new or enhanced techniques and procedures. The expected outcome is the advancement of new or refined equipment, materials, processes, products, and/or methods.

Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent, along with relevant continuing education. Six Sigma Green Belt or higher is preferred.

Experience:
A minimum of four years of relevant engineering experience is required; ten years is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
The candidate should possess a solid understanding of industrial engineering principles, including:

  • Design of experiments
  • Engineering statistics
  • Engineering economics
  • Equipment layout and workflow planning

Additionally, familiarity with general industrial engineering techniques such as time studies, root cause analysis, and Pareto analysis is essential for analyzing data and evaluating processes.

The ability to conduct thorough productivity constraints and root cause analyses and to provide actionable recommendations regarding support equipment, operational processes, systems design, material handling, and facility design using both established and innovative engineering solutions is critical.

Data collection and analysis to identify and rectify deficiencies, along with modeling work and material flow within a facility, are also required.

The candidate should be capable of learning manufacturing technologies specific to the industry and utilizing that knowledge to make effective analyses and recommendations for equipment and process enhancements.

Proficiency in performing minor revisions and updates to layouts using Computer Aided Design software (AutoCAD) is necessary, including equipment placement adjustments, text modifications, and schematic layout options.

A general understanding of other engineering disciplines, including Electrical, Mechanical, and Environmental Engineering, is advantageous for coordinating efforts on minor projects.

The individual will provide leadership in innovation and new technology initiatives, demonstrating the insight and interpersonal skills necessary to resolve conflicts involving associates within and outside the organization.

The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision is essential, along with the capability to promote and advocate for engineering services to internal stakeholders.

Interaction with plant associates at various levels throughout the project lifecycle is required to gather data, comprehend operational methods, solicit design input, gain support for solutions, and assist in optimizing systems.

Physical Demands:
The associate will work in a manufacturing environment where exposure to hazards and requirements may include the use of Personal Protective Equipment, climbing ladders, exposure to noise levels above 80 dB, handling objects weighing up to 50 lbs, and contact with solvent fumes and inks.

Travel Requirements:
Travel to various facilities to support projects is expected, comprising 30-40% of the year, with some international travel and occasional weekend travel required.
