• Takes initiative for personal development and ongoing education.
• Ensures quality assurance in the work conducted by all team members, coordinating services to clients in a manner that promotes satisfaction and operational efficiency.
• Maintains compliance with CAP, JCAHO, OSHA, infection control, safety, and other regulatory standards, including the privacy and security of health information (PHI).
• Keeps the collection area and equipment organized and sanitary, restocking supplies as needed.
• Responsible for acquiring necessary supplies for the department in collaboration with the team lead.
• Executes all phlebotomy duties, including specimen collection, reception, and dispatch.
• Prepares specimens for external laboratory referrals, which includes ordering tests, packaging specimens, arranging transportation, and managing referral documentation.
• Conducts all patient specimen collections, including venipuncture, capillary draws, urine drug screens, skin tests, and cultures.
• Ensures that specimen requirements are fulfilled at the time of collection to maintain specimen integrity.
• Demonstrates effective communication skills while interacting with clients, patients, family members, nursing staff, physicians, and colleagues.
• Utilizes the laboratory information system to document specimen details, patient registration, order entry, collection lists, and other assigned responsibilities.
• Performs additional related tasks as assigned (stand-by/on-call, inventory management, special projects, cross-training, etc.).
• Completes performance evaluations and annual competency assessments for associates promptly.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills:
• High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Completion of a Phlebotomy, Medical Laboratory, or Medical Assistant program that includes phlebotomy is preferred.
• Familiarity with medical terminology, data entry, and organizational skills is essential.
Experience:
• A minimum of one year of phlebotomy experience is preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
• Certification from a Nationally Accredited Program is preferred.
