Role Summary:
The Laboratory Science Specialist plays a crucial role in conducting a variety of clinical laboratory assessments on biological samples. This position involves the meticulous review, evaluation, documentation, and reporting of test outcomes while ensuring patient confidentiality and adhering to laboratory safety protocols. Additionally, this role includes the training and supervision of laboratory personnel as necessary.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, biological sciences, chemical sciences, or a related field: Required
- Experience in a clinical laboratory setting: Preferred
- Current certification from a recognized professional body in laboratory science: Preferred
- Certification from a recognized laboratory certification body: Required
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensures accurate patient identification and specimen integrity throughout the testing process, including proper collection, labeling, handling, and storage.
- Prioritizes laboratory requests based on urgency and performs a variety of tests across multiple disciplines, adhering to established quality assurance protocols.
- Evaluates the accuracy and validity of test results, considering various factors that may influence outcomes, and communicates critical findings to healthcare providers.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment by following proper disposal procedures and performing routine equipment maintenance and calibration.
- Contributes to performance improvement initiatives by collecting and analyzing data, and provides guidance to laboratory staff as needed.
- Completes additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
