Role Summary:
The General Foreman is responsible for overseeing multiple service crews, including newly appointed Foremen with limited experience. This role is crucial in ensuring the safe and efficient layout, assembly, and installation of underground utilities and natural gas projects. The General Foreman will enforce compliance with company policies, safety standards, and relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide service installation sequences and supervise natural gas crews in the safe execution of all aspects of underground utilities and natural gas projects.
- Interpret plans to understand layout, sequencing, and pipe installation methods.
- Complete daily paperwork, including timesheets, service cards, production reports, and traceability documentation.
- Train crews on company safety policies to maintain a compliant and safe work environment.
- Oversee daily operations to meet job specifications and customer requirements while monitoring safety conditions.
- Track the progress of multiple crews to ensure timely job completion in line with the overall construction schedule.
- Ensure all work complies with installation standards and adheres to environmental policies.
- Maintain professionalism in interactions with owners, inspectors, and company personnel.
- Supervise special or emergency projects as required.
Essential Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of gas installation techniques and standards.
- Ability to read and draft blueprints.
- Proficient in operating heavy equipment.
- Understanding of safety and maintenance protocols for equipment.
- Ability to assess unsafe conditions and implement corrective measures.
- Strong leadership skills to direct work and evaluate crew performance.
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local codes.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Strong sense of personal responsibility and teamwork.
Education and Experience:
- Preferred: High school diploma or GED; vocational training is a plus.
- Required: Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in underground natural gas utilities installation, along with 2 years of hands-on construction experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Willingness to work extended hours, including nights and weekends as necessary.
- Able to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to travel to project sites within a reasonable distance from the home office.
- Capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions and job hazards.
