We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Operating Room Assistant to join our team at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC). As an OR Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our surgical suites, providing exceptional patient care, and maintaining a clean and safe environment for our patients and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and maintain surgical equipment and supplies, ensuring they are in good working order and readily available for procedures.
- Assist surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses with patient care activities, such as positioning and holding extremities during surgical prepping.
- Clean and disinfect operating rooms, corridors, and other common areas, adhering to strict infection control protocols.
- Transport patients to and from the surgical suite, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the process.
- Assist with room turnover, restocking supplies, and maintaining a clean and organized environment.
- Communicate effectively with the surgical team, patients, and families, providing clear and concise information regarding patient care and procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; OR Support Assistant training obtained on the job preferred.
- Six (6) months experience in a direct patient care environment, with knowledge of basic patient activities, procedures, and protocols.
- Ability to read and write English, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical stamina to perform heavy lifting and strenuous physical exertion, with ability to walk and stand for long periods.
Exposure to water, detergents, and other cleaning agents, as well as potential hazards from used needles and other sharp objects. Occasional exposure to anesthetic exhausts.
