Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the US Department of Veterans Affairs as a Registered Nurse in our Medical Specialty Care team. As a key member of our team, you will provide high-quality patient care, work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, and contribute to the development of our clinical programs.

Responsibilities
  • Provide assessment and triage to all patients presenting for non-urgent care.
  • Perform administrative and various clinical duties.
  • Provide clinical leadership in the Specialty Care Clinics.
  • Administer therapeutic measures such as medication administration, intravenous fluids, etc.
  • Maintain professional knowledge of proficiency, continuing education, staff meetings, workshops, and serving on nursing committees.
  • Collaborate with other professionals in developing a multidisciplinary approach to provision of care.
  • Record observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures, and other relevant patient care data.
  • Execute position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient care.
  • Influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Serve as a clinical expert to guide, develop, and support staff.
  • Prioritize, organize, anticipate workflow to achieve optimal patient care outcomes.
  • Evaluate practice of self, non-professional staff, and colleagues against standards of practices and relevant regulations and take action to improve compliance.
  • Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs.
Requirements
  • English Language Proficiency.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Working Conditions

This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patient and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to wear protective clothing in isolation situations or during procedures.

Education

A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education or degrees recognized by the U.S. Department of Education from accredited colleges, universities, schools, or institutions may be used to qualify for Federal employment.
