Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Clinical Nurse (Ambulatory) to join our team at the Defense Health Agency Civilian Corps in Falls Church, VA. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide exceptional patient care and support to our patients in the ambulatory setting.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive telephone and clinical triaging, and facilitate care coordination through a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Establish priorities for patient care and evaluate patients' progress toward high-level wellness.
  • Provide patient education as an integral part of the services offered.
  • Act as relief nurse, triage and screen walk-in patients to assess the severity of the patient's condition and the need for provider intervention.
  • Communicate with providers regarding determinations and situations, document events appropriately.
  • Screen patient charts to assess the medical history and determine health care needs.
  • Make psychosocial assessment of patients to identify significant cultural practices, the ability to understand and cooperate, and expectations of care and coping mechanisms.
  • Execute or ensure the completion of orders from health care providers.
  • Recognize and report abnormal test results, changes in symptoms and the need for follow-up.
  • Record data on patient charts.
  • Assist health care providers with examinations and procedures.
  • Incumbent will be responsible for educating patients for high risk, painful or stressful procedures with education and support.
  • Monitor or ensure the monitoring of patients pre, during and post-procedure per established protocols and SOPs.
  • Assess post-procedure patients prior to their release from the clinic.
  • Ensure complete, thorough documentation for all procedures.
  • Prepare and administer oral, subcutaneous, intra-muscular and intravenous medications.
  • Independently instruct and demonstrate to patients how to provide self-care.
  • Instruct patient in self medication of prescribed pharmaceutical agents.
  • Reinforce health care provider instructions and encourage patient in the maintenance of health and self care.
  • Respond to emergency situations.
Qualifications
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Employee must have a current, active, unrestricted, valid Registered Nurse license in at least one US state or province/territory of the United States.
  • Must have a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is highly desirable.
  • Position is Designated Testing Position (DTP) for drugs.
  • Position requires the incumbent to have passed a Child Background Check (works with Adolescent patient).
  • Position may require incumbent to work alternate shifts.
