Custodian

Job Summary:

The Custodian will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the school building. This includes daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules, as well as performing additional duties as needed. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and experience in the custodial field.

Key Responsibilities:

Follows and completes daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules
Collects and bags all garbage within the building, placing the bags in a closed dumpster
Disinfects and cleans garbage and trash cans, and changes bags
Washes and sanitizes bathrooms fixtures daily with germicidal solution
Uses germicidal solution, wet mops all washable floors daily including kitchen, bathroom, office, and classroom
Vacuums all carpeted areas
Sweeps and clears entrance spaces
Dusts, washes, and sanitizes other surfaces as specified in schedule
Performs other cleaning duties as specified in schedule
Refills paper towel, tissue, toilet paper, and hand soap in all dispensers
Changes light bulbs, as needed
Reports the following to the Director, Building Principal, and Lead Custodian: presence of animals, vermin, or insects, need for cleaning supplies or equipment repair in advance, water leaks, and other maintenance needs, all other health and safety hazards noticed
Participates in emergency drills and environmental safety activities, as requested
Attends and participates in departmental and school building in-service trainings
Performs other duties as specified in job description addendum or as assigned

Requirements:

Exemplary, predictable, and reliable attendance is required for this position
Employee must be physically present and mentally alert to perform this job
High school diploma or equivalent and training in the custodial field are preferred
Ability to learn proper cleaning methods required
Effective verbal communication skills commensurate with the responsibilities of the position are required

Working Conditions:

This job involves standing for long periods, as well as stooping, squatting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and climbing. Able to work a flexible schedule. Must be able to travel, enter, and exit a vehicle without assistance and withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions. Wearing of protective equipment, such as latex gloves, per OSHA regulations is required.
