Job Summary

This Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position is located within the VA Community Living Center at Central Iowa VA Health Care System, providing care to Veterans receiving extended hospital care and short-term rehabilitation levels of care which includes help with activities of daily living, skilled nursing, and dementia care.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care activities under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Observe, identify, and respond to patient's need for care, including medication, equipment-assisted care, patient/family education, and oral/written documentation in accordance with policy, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Prepare/administer prescribed medication (oral, topical, subcutaneous, and intramuscular), following standard medical center policies.
  • Participate in the interdisciplinary team care planning and delivery of care process.
  • Implement orders and provide care to variable patient population.
  • Recognize emergency situations and demonstrate effective action in emergencies.
  • Participate actively in performance improvement measures.
  • Appreciate diversity, keeping an open mind for diversity, cultural competency, and continuous learning.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination or evaluation.
  • Must be able to work rotating weekends/holidays and occasional off-tour rotation.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Experience

Physical Rehabilitation and Restorative Nursing.

Education

Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (Formerly: National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission).
