Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Water Distribution Maintenance Technician to join our team at the City of Spring Hill Tennessee. As a key member of our Water Distribution Division, you will be responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and construction of water distribution system components, grounds, facilities, equipment, and related customer service and management functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform repairs to fire hydrants and flow test related equipment.
  • Cut, fit, lay, and repair hydrants; clean and flush water mains; repair mains, valves, and hydrants.
  • Inspect, test, and operate valves, fittings, and related water distribution equipment.
  • Operate specialized vehicles and a variety of light, medium, and heavy equipment related to the maintenance and repair of the City's water distribution system.
  • Participate in water system maintenance and repair work; locate, excavate, and repair water lines and related facilities; inspect water projects for leaks, decayed pipes, spillages, and pump malfunctioning.
  • Maintain public facilities, shop, and garage areas, storage sites, and other work areas in a clean and orderly condition, including securing equipment at the close of the workday.
  • Provide courteous customer service responding to questions and inquiries from the general public; respond to customer problems or issues and facility repair.
  • Contact the public to inform them of activities and shutdowns; explain applicable rules and regulations.
  • Participate in removing weeds and debris from pump stations, water distribution easements, and grounds.
  • Required to be on call approximately every five weeks.
  • May operate a jackhammer, pour, and finish concrete and blacktop.
  • May participate in training new employees in work practices and in how to apply policies, procedures, and standards to specific situations.
  • Maintain records of basic operations, maintenance, and work performed.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Tennessee Drivers' License required.
  • Possession of a Class A driver's license with the appropriate endorsements.
  • Must possess a valid Grade II Water Distribution Certificate and Cross Connection Certificate issued by the Tennessee Department Environment and Conservation (TDEC) within 1 year of employment.
  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience repairing and maintaining water distribution systems and equipment.
