Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret and clarify patient prescriptions provided by optometrists.
  • Gather customer details and perform precise measurements of the ocular region.
  • Advise on frames or contact lenses that align with the customer's personal style and specifications.
  • Fit and adjust eyewear according to prescriptions and individual preferences.
  • Coordinate with optical laboratories to order eyewear based on patient specifications.
  • Collaborate with frame suppliers and optical labs to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct quality checks on materials and perform necessary repairs using appropriate tools.
  • Maintain essential equipment and inventory to ensure smooth practice operations.
  • Stay informed about contemporary fashion trends to assist customers effectively.
  • Handle administrative tasks, including managing prescriptions, customer records, and insurance documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a similar role is preferred.
  • Certification as an Optician is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and capable of multitasking in a dynamic, high-volume environment.
  • Proven sales capabilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications; familiarity with Officemate or Crystal is a plus.
  • Knowledge of frame and lens types, materials, and coatings is beneficial.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This position involves working in a standard practice environment. The role requires regular use of hands for handling, reaching, and effective communication. Frequent standing, walking, and sitting are essential, along with occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching. The ability to lift and/or move items weighing up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 25 pounds occasionally is necessary. Specific vision capabilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
