Publix Super Markets, Inc. is seeking a skilled Refrigeration Technician to join our Industrial Refrigeration team. As a Refrigeration Technician, you will play a critical role in maintaining the integrity of our refrigerated warehouses and manufacturing facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and operate industrial refrigeration systems, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
- Conduct daily rounds to monitor and record temperatures and humidity levels, making minor adjustments as needed.
- Perform predictive and preventative maintenance procedures on ammonia and Freon refrigeration systems, including compressors, pumps, fans, heat exchangers, glycol systems, and other industrial utility systems.
- Train and mentor entry-level refrigeration technicians in daily operations, inspections, and repair techniques.
- Participate in process improvement activities to enhance system efficiency and minimize downtime.
- Perform general housekeeping duties, including cleaning and maintaining equipment, emptying trash, and maintaining a safe working environment.
Requirements:
- At least 18 years old.
- Ability to obtain Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Section 608 certification within one year of hire.
- Ability to obtain medical clearance to wear respiratory protection within two weeks of hire.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 65 pounds.
- Experience using hand tools and ability to supply and maintain hand tools.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent work habits and conform to all OSHA, PSM, HAZMAT, and Publix safety programs and regulations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to unplanned breakdowns with a sense of urgency.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
- Basic math skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with little or no supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in glycol, heat exchangers, HVAC, and water chiller systems.
- Experience in electrical systems, including single and three-phase motor systems, power distribution, and low-voltage controls.
- Experience maintaining and troubleshooting 480V C3 phase motor control systems.
- Experience in refrigeration, including maintaining and troubleshooting systems using ammonia or Freon.
- Working knowledge of process instrumentation and PLC controllers.
Work Environment:
The work environment will involve temperatures ranging from 20 degrees below to 90 degrees Fahrenheit for extended periods.
