Key Responsibilities

The Dietary Cook is tasked with ensuring that each resident receives a nutritious and appealing meal as prescribed by their healthcare provider. Food must be handled with care, prepared according to established recipes, and served in appropriate portions and temperatures.

  • Prepare and serve meals while adhering to portion control guidelines.
  • Ensure timely thawing and proper storage of all food items.
  • Review menus and complete any necessary pre-preparation tasks.
  • Collaborate with the Food Service Supervisor to review daily production sheets.
  • Safely operate kitchen equipment, ensuring thorough cleaning and sanitization after each use.
  • Maintain a cleaning schedule to verify daily cleaning tasks are completed and documented.
  • Label and date food items, ensuring proper rotation.
  • Monitor and document food temperatures for each meal.
  • Check and record daily temperatures of coolers and freezers.
  • Document any meal substitutions as necessary.
  • Maintain effective communication with residents, families, and facility staff.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of large-scale cooking practices.
  • Understanding of portion control and quality assurance measures.
  • Familiarity with modified dietary requirements.
  • Experience with food ordering and purchasing processes.
  • Awareness of health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and management.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding instructions.
