The Prepared Foods Team Leader is responsible for providing comprehensive leadership to the Prepared Foods department. This role encompasses all facets of daily operations, including financial performance, cost management, procurement, product presentation, workforce management, compliance with regulations, and special initiatives as designated. The Team Leader is accountable for the recruitment, training, development, and, when necessary, corrective actions and terminations of Team Members. All roles within Whole Foods Market Retail are expected to uphold a positive company image by delivering courteous, friendly, and efficient service to both customers and Team Members consistently. All responsibilities must be executed in alignment with team and store Standard Operating Procedures. Additionally, Team Members should be ready and capable of fulfilling the duties associated with other Team Member roles. Each position is expected to support Whole Foods Market's core values and objectives, promote national, regional, and store programs and initiatives, and ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, including Food Safety and departmental regulatory responsibilities.Key Responsibilities
Ensures accountability among Assistant Team Leaders, supervisors, and Team Members for delivering exceptional customer service. Cultivates a positive workplace characterized by teamwork, mutual respect, and high morale. Makes informed decisions regarding hiring and separations. Monitors and achieves sales, purchasing, and labor objectives. Maintains optimal product selection, merchandising standards, and inventory management. Develops and sustains collaborative relationships with department leaders and vendors. Remains knowledgeable about competitors and industry trends. Sets and meets the highest standards of retail execution. Encourages a positive environment that fosters teamwork, respect, and morale. Observes customer traffic and needs, directing Team Members as necessary to enhance customer satisfaction; responds promptly to customer inquiries. Selects, trains, develops, mentors, motivates, and advises Team Members to maintain a high-performance team and reduce turnover. Provides timely, thorough, and constructive performance evaluations. Consistently communicates and exemplifies Whole Foods Market's vision and objectives.Required Skills
Maintains a high level of knowledge and awareness of relevant competitors and industry trends. Advanced understanding of products, procurement, pricing, merchandising, and inventory management. Food safety certification is required; if not currently certified, commitment to complete certification within six months is expected. Strong interpersonal, motivational, team-building, and customer relationship skills. Ability to instruct others in a positive and constructive manner. In-depth product knowledge. Advanced understanding of regulatory and safety policies and procedures. Proficient mathematical skills for evaluating financial performance, monitoring profitability, and managing inventory. Demonstrated decision-making capabilities, leadership skills, and the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks. Proficiency in email, Microsoft Office, and operations-related software.Experience
Minimum of 24 months of retail experience, including at least 12 months in a leadership role.Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. In an 8-hour workday: standing/walking for 6-8 hours. Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling. Requires bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching motions. Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals. Exposure to various temperatures: below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Ability to work in both wet and dry conditions. Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required. Proficient in using tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
