Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee staff management, including recruitment, development, training, performance evaluation, and communication to ensure optimal departmental functioning.
  • Facilitate orientation, training, and assessment of personnel in accordance with organizational policies and standards.
  • Comprehend policies and their implications on daily departmental operations.
  • Ensure that menus provided are nutritionally balanced and well-received by patients.
  • Identify and communicate any issues regarding the implementation of dietary plans or special diet orders to the dietitian.
  • Assist the dietitian in establishing or updating dietary policies and menus as needed.
  • Determine departmental budget requirements and oversee the approval of expenditures.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for the department.
  • Analyze work processes to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Verify the quality and quantity of received supplies and address any discrepancies.
  • Inspect incoming food and supplies for quality and accuracy, directing the proper storage of goods.
  • Manage documentation and cost control measures.
  • Supervise the application of standardized recipes for meal preparation.
  • Plan and assist in the preparation of special meals for events.
  • Direct and support departmental cleaning tasks not handled by housekeeping staff.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to managers or supervisors responsible for food service support.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Food Service Management, Human Nutrition, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of six years of experience in food services, with at least four years in a supervisory role, is required.

Certifications:

  • ServSafe Certification or a similar food safety certification, as mandated by state and facility regulations.
  • Completion of coursework and passing the examination for Certified Dietary Manager, or actively pursuing certification as required by state and facility guidelines.
