This program functions under a day-hospital rehabilitation model, accommodating up to eight children along with their caregivers simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities:
The Physical Therapist in the Interdisciplinary Rehabilitation Program will be tasked with:

  • Conducting intricate diagnostic evaluations based on physician referrals and adhering to departmental and professional standards. This includes verifying the appropriateness of referrals and engaging with providers as necessary. This involves prioritizing treatment objectives and administering suitable physical therapy procedures and modalities. The therapist will also prepare discharge plans and home treatment strategies while providing education and guidance to patients and their families.
  • Utilizing sophisticated clinical reasoning skills for the selection and fabrication of orthotics, adaptive equipment, and technology tailored to patients, particularly those with complex, rare, or multiple dysfunctions. The therapist will prioritize patient and family goals to achieve specific treatment outcomes and will communicate with equipment designers and vendors regarding specifications and patient requirements.
  • Documenting assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans in patient medical records in accordance with established documentation standards. This includes preparing reports, correspondence, referrals, and other necessary materials for schools, providers, payors, and other stakeholders. The therapist will also assign standardized billing codes and corresponding charges required for reimbursement.
  • Proactively enhancing clinical knowledge and skills through engagement in professional organizations, attending continuing education programs, and utilizing various internal and external resources. The therapist will integrate professional development into clinical practice and share insights with the department.
  • Participating in departmental training and staff development initiatives. Serving as a preceptor for new physical therapist staff and as a clinical instructor in the student externship program. The therapist may also act as a mentor and faculty member for the clinical residency program.
  • Supervising assigned direct reports, including physical therapist I, physical therapist assistants, and rehabilitation aides.
  • Ensuring a safe work environment and participating in additional duties as necessary to support the daily operations of the department.
