Position Summary

The Animal Packer plays a crucial role in the management and transportation of livestock. This position involves the preparation, securing, and packing of loads of diverse sizes and weights using appropriate hitches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and secure loads for transport, ensuring the safe handling of livestock.
  • Administer basic veterinary care, including feeding and medical treatment of animals.
  • Operate heavy machinery for the maintenance of livestock facilities and transport mules as needed.
  • Occasionally lead trail crews in the absence of the designated crew leader.
  • Assist in the transportation of supplies and equipment to various locations.
  • Ensure a high standard of safety for all personnel and livestock during operations.
  • Participate in trail construction and maintenance, utilizing hand and power tools.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support team objectives.

Work Environment

This role is stationed in a national park setting, providing a unique opportunity to work in a natural environment. The area experiences a range of temperatures and weather conditions, contributing to a dynamic work atmosphere.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of an Animal Packer with minimal supervision. Key qualifications include:

  • Experience in handling and caring for livestock.

  • Strong attention to safety protocols.

Additional Information

All candidates must meet specific employment conditions, including U.S. citizenship and the ability to pass a background investigation. A valid driver's license is required for those operating government vehicles.
