Position Overview

General Summary: The primary responsibility of this role is to conduct echocardiograms in accordance with established departmental protocols and under the supervision of a cardiologist. The focus is on delivering outstanding customer service while ensuring high-quality cardiac examinations.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not entail any supervisory duties.

General Requirements: All tasks must be executed with precision and within designated timeframes.

  • Collects patient medical history, clarifies standard procedures, and addresses any patient inquiries.
  • Exhibits expertise in non-invasive cardiac technology to carry out physician-recommended diagnostic cardiac tests.
  • Utilizes technical knowledge of diagnostic non-invasive cardiac imaging equipment, including basic troubleshooting, proper cleaning, storage, and maintenance of the equipment.
  • Ensures all examinations are properly authorized for the requested study.
  • Prepares patients, equipment, and materials for diagnostic procedures following established patient care and safety protocols.
  • Guarantees accurate and interpretable recordings by applying deductive reasoning to resolve minor issues and make necessary adjustments during the examination.
  • Compiles technical reports for final evaluation by the cardiologist.
  • Monitors the quality of examinations by implementing appropriate diagnostic techniques for each view/exam.
  • Performs clerical tasks as needed, including answering phones, filing, copying, scanning, and faxing.
  • Reports any equipment malfunctions to the Imaging Services Manager.
  • Communicates quality concerns to the Imaging Services Manager.
  • Processes routine documentation.
  • Maintains the ultrasound room.
  • Stocks essential medical supplies.
  • Demonstrates tact and courtesy when interacting with patients, visitors, physicians, and colleagues.
  • Capable of working efficiently under pressure.
  • Assists with other modalities when available.
  • Upholds strict confidentiality.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducting high-quality echocardiograms.
  • Reporting any patient or equipment safety concerns.

Education and Training: A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. 2-5 years of experience in echocardiography within a hospital or clinical environment is essential. Completion of an accredited echocardiogram program and current CPR/Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification are mandatory. Familiarity with medical terminology is required. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred. Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field is expected.

Required Credentials:

Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS)

Experience: 2-5 years of experience in echocardiography within a hospital or clinical setting.

Additional Requirements: Proficiency in word processing software, database software, spreadsheets, and internet applications.

Work Environment: This role is primarily office-based, although there may be instances of working in clinical or construction environments depending on assigned projects. Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions typical of a clinical setting is common. Exposure to debris, dust, sharp objects, chemicals, and electricity is also typical in construction environments. Gonzaba Medical Group will provide necessary training and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safety and success in the work environment.

Mental / Physical Requirements: This position requires manual dexterity, the ability to sit, stand, stoop, reach, kneel, crouch, bend, walk, and lift up to 40 lbs. without assistance. Close vision and the ability to adjust focus are necessary. The candidate must be able to work efficiently under pressure.
