We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Emergency Department Technician to join our team at WVU Medicine. As a key member of our pediatric emergency department, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.
Key Responsibilities- Assist registered nurses with patient care activities, including vital sign monitoring, personal hygiene, and specimen collection.
- Provide indirect patient care by maintaining a clean and safe environment, and assisting with administrative tasks to support department operations.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure seamless care coordination.
- Perform routine tests, such as glucose monitoring and EKG testing, and maintain accurate records.
- Transport specimens to the lab and collect blood samples as needed.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire date.
- Two years of college in an applicable course of study (nursing, biology, physical therapy, or sports medicine) or two years of experience in an Emergency Department or pre-hospital setting.
- Currently certified as a West Virginia Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic.
- Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
The Emergency Department Technician will work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment, and will be required to work closely with others, protracted or irregular hours, and around biohazards and infectious diseases.
Skills and Abilities- Ability to effectively communicate with staff and patients.
- Ability to adapt to changing environments.
