Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse will work collaboratively with an RN to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. This role requires the ability to perform independently advanced skills within area guidelines and after education and demonstration of clinical competency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively contribute to Eskenazi's mission by advocating, caring, teaching, and serving vulnerable populations.
  • Collaborate with an RN to perform patient care assessments, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Responsible for all patient care assigned, adhering to standards of practice with RN support.
  • Participate in the healthcare team approach, assisting in client examinations, treatments, and specialized procedures as defined by area-specific guidelines.
  • Administer prescribed treatments and medications after demonstrating clinical competency and adhering to hospital/center/nursing policy and procedure.
  • Maintain medication accountability records, stock records, and client-physician schedules.
  • Perform intake processes, including medical history gathering, lab work scheduling, withdrawal symptoms documentation, and client orientation to clinical procedures.
  • Participate in team meetings, contributing information helpful to counselors in client care and clinical management.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited training program for Licensed Practical Nurses or equivalent, incorporating pharmacology and proof of completion of pharmacology course.
  • A minimum of six months of clinical nursing experience with patients of all age groups to meet LPN II criteria.
  • Current Indiana License as Licensed Practical Nurse or eligibility for license.
  • Current CPR certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Skills in patient care delivery, equipment, and instrument use appropriate to assigned unit.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills with accurate reading and recording of information.
  • Knowledge acquired in an accredited LPN training program.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with a wide variety of people and patients.
  • Function in stressful or crisis situations.
  • Accurately read and record data.
  • Flexibility to changing work priorities, assisting, assessing, and responding to patient needs.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.
